How it started

Being from a coastal town ourselves, it soon became clear just how many of us love the beach. Weekends, holidays, you name it. But lately our beach visits had been plagued with bad smells, dirty seaweed, and closing shops. As upsetting as this was, we were outraged to find out almost all coastal communities struggle with this- and no one’s doing anything about it! As we did more research it became clear this was our problem to solve. We came up with Coastal Treasures as a way to turn what has been plaguing our beaches into something we could use to enjoy them.

Through our partnership with the extraction team called Carbon Wave, we collect the seaweed safely from the beaches. Their subcompany, SeaBalance, transforms it into an emulsifier, and uses it to make various skin care products ranging from sunscreen to moisturizers. We also implement it in our textiles and sustainable packaging.

Our impact

Seaweed offers a sustainable and regenerative solution to tackle CO2 sequestration, pollution, and the instability arising from our climate emergency. Our system-level approach ensures that every aspect of our operation, from collection to distribution, is focused on revitalizing essential ecosystems and promoting resilient circular economies.
